When a student is thinking about dropping out of school, all they can often think about is the reasons why they should.  Here are some impressive statistics

that might help convince them that they shouldn't.

·    Workers without a high school  degree, who work full-time hours year around, earn an average of $23,400 per year.  High school graduates earn $30,400.  Workers who complete even some college earn $36,800.  You can’t go to  college with out a high school   degree or GED test results.

·     High school graduates earn an average of $143 dollars more per week than high school dropouts.

·     Each year, the average earnings of high school dropouts fall compared to the average cost of living.

·     High school dropouts are 2.5 times more likely to have to go on welfare than high school graduates.

·    Only 9% of jobs are available to workers without a high school   degree.  The number of these available jobs decreases each year as more and more jobs demand higher education.

·    The children of high school dropouts are affected by their parent’s choice.  1/3 of children of dropouts have to repeat at least one grade and they have many more school suspensions and expulsions than children of high school graduates.

·     High school dropouts are 4 times more likely to be unemployed than high school graduates.

·    High school graduates are much less likely to end up in prison than high school graduates.  82% of inmates in US jails and prisons are high school dropouts.
